As the Electricity System Operator (ESO) for Great Britain, transitioning into the National Energy System Operator (NESO), part of our role is to provide impartial advice to HM Government and the regulator on what is required to securely accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels.  

On 9th July, the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero commissioned the ESO to provide advice on how clean power can be delivered by 2030.

Achieving clean power by 2030 whilst keeping the system secure and affordable for consumers would be a world-leading achievement. We welcome the ambition set by HM Government and look forward to contributing by undertaking this critical analysis at pace.
